How to Get The Cheapest Car Insurance

i haven't got insuranceMany people simply renew their car insurance each year and just accept that this is part of the cost of driving. However, there is certainly plenty of things you can do to try and lower your car insurance premium, and given the amount of money you can save, it is certainly worth the effort. Here are some tips on how to get cheaper car insurance:

Get as many quotes as you can

There are plenty of price comparison websites available now so that you can enter your details once and be presented with literally hundreds of different prices. Although you should not simply choose the cheapest one that comes up without looking into it, it is always beneficial to see what your options are, rather than simply renewing each year.

Look for a specialist insurer

Although it is wise to get as many quotes as you can.  There are some insurers who offer cheaper car insurance for young and new drivers like 1st Central Insurance. Make sure you get a quote from them and compare it to the prices on the comparison websites.

Protect your no-claims

Your no-claims bonus is one of the most important factors car insurance companies consider when giving you a quote. This is why you should certainly consider protecting your no-claims by paying an extra few pounds a year; this extra cost pales into insignificance when compared with how much more expensive your premium would be if you had a claim within the last 12 months.

Choose a high excess

The excess on your policy is how much you will pay for repairs before the car insurance company takes over. It is therefore quite obvious that if you are willing to pay a little extra, this will bring down the price of your premium.

Make your car safe

Two more factors that will affect the cost of your premium are where your car is parked overnight, and whether you have any security devices installed. Parking in a secure garage or driveway will make your car safer and therefore cost you less on insurance, and by having an alarm or immobiliser installed, you will also save a few pounds.

Don’t add drivers you don’t need to

Often, the more drivers you have on the policy, the more expensive it will be. This is especially the case if you are adding young drivers onto the policy, so don’t do it unless you really need to.

Choose the right annual mileage

Although sometimes it is tricky to work out, by telling the car insurance company you will be traveling more miles than you actually do, your premium will go up. Look at your previous MOT certificates to see how far you actually travel.

As you can see, there are plenty of things you can do to bring down the price of your car insurance. At the very least, shop around each year to find a better deal.

  1. We shopped around a lot after we bought our last car. Saved a lot of money!

  2. Going to better insurers with cheaper quotes often works in getting the best deal, as you point out. Thanks for this, as I’ll be needing it in the near future.

  3. Great points. Knew some of them but definitely will look into the ones that I heard for the first time.

  4. Many people don’t realize that they can save money by keeping the insured drivers to the ones who will actually drive the car. When you have cheap auto insurance there is usually a reason but it doesn’t necessarily mean that it is bad reason. You just have to decide what you need and pay for it, nothing more.
